Well boys and girls, it's that time again where you see an update in my blog only to find a boring read. For the past few months (or years possibly), I kept deleting whatever I wrote because it just didn't feel like an interesting read. In the past (when I played FFXI), I think I've provided some quality entries - whether it be drama, HNM kills, or theorycrafting - at least few people found them interesting and that motivated me to write more often. But, in the end, I came up with good reads because FFXI was my passion and I was determined to be the best I could be.
I really like WoW. But I'm definitely not passionate about it as I was with FFXI. I would wipe over and over again and just think "oh well, there's always next week". When I wiped in FFXI, I /facepalm'd. It's embarassing to wipe in that game because people are there watching you. They are waiting for you to wipe so that they can fight. By wiping, not only do you lose claim of the mob, but you give other linkshells a chance to prove that they're better than you. And no competitive gamer ever wants to be told that you are inferior. But as time passed, the decline in my competitive nature became pretty clear.
I guess the fact that I'm complacent with 2300 rating in 3v3 is a sign that I have become more receptive to inferiority. The road to Gladiator is tough. Part of it has to do with the fact that Rampge BG was the home of big names in S5~6. I didn't play this season until two weeks ago because I was busy with Aion (which turned out to be disappointing). So, still sporting full furious and S6 T2 weapons, I had trouble finding teams. I finally ditched RMP and the mage I played with for 4 seasons. I joined a paladin and a priest to run RRP ('cept the pally is prot instead of ret). Compared to the finesse required by RMP to succeed, RRP is pretty faceroll. Prot paladins do ridiculous dmg. And, honestly, no prot spec should be viable in arena. Not only are they hard as hell to kill, the offensive pressure put forth by them are pretty insane (9k avenger shield crits). When I played RMP, I had to think ahead and use my CDs wisely. With RRP, I literally just mash my mutilate button while blowing all of my CDs (including prep) in the first 40 seconds to wotlk someone.

This is a quick picture that I showed my teammates (RMP) when we had difficulty against TSG cleave last season. Intercept them before they get to our priest. You have to make the first move by nova'ing them at mid (indicated by the blue circle). We had to put enough pressure while peeling the warrior and DK off of our priest. As RRP, we just tunnel the warrior full time and one focus kick on the paladin followed by gouge is usually enough to drop the warrior. And now, with the new poison changes, I'll be doing much more dmg to plates.
Anyways, I digressed to WoW again. What I really wanted to write about was regarding FF14.

You do not disappoint Square. From the picture alone, you can feel that it is Final Fantasy. Just by looking at it, I feel like I can tell a crazy epic story about it. "Hey, remember that time we first pulled that pugil at the waterfall? We all got owned 'cept you 'cause you chicken warped.. but your HP was in _____ rofl". At first, I was a bit irritated when I heard FF14 will just be a remake of FF11. Similar zones, near same jobs, slight change to battle system. But now, I wouldn't mind if all of the zones were the same with enhanced graphics. Because everywhere I go, I'll have something to talk about. Just please Square.. All I ask is that you learn from your past and not make the same mistake that was 3 Kings or Ulli. Having world HNMs is fine, but as WoW has shown, instanced bosses is the way to go. And for the love of God.. GEAR PROGRESSION. PLEASE. No Ridill swinging faggotry for 4 years. And no capping of FPS at 30 -_-;
That leads me to the next question. Am I going to play? The more I think about it, the more I'm inclined to. If most of the people in EDI were to reunite, I wouldn't even think twice. But thanks to cross-realm xfer, a lot of people left Garuda and I think a good number of them are planning on playing 14 with their current linkshells. And over the years, their lives have changed. A lot of them graduated school and are working full time and some got married and have kids. Can they all find time to play? I'm certain there will be a good amount of grinding involved and we can't expect them to give out welfare epics like WoW does.
Looking at our forums, it seems like a lot of them are interested in playing. I just hope we get to play together, not separately. If we can play together again, no matter how much of a crap the game turns out to be, I'm ready to drop WoW and get back to Final Fantasy. Because... I can tell you 1000 memories about FFXI, but less than 10 about WoW. We've all said this many times, but it's not about the pixels. It's about the people. How many of you that quit FFXI talk amongst yourselves about how insane your Rampage dmg was? Or how you were the first to get 'so and so'? You talk about those times that all of your party died to Guivre, right?
If I do play, I will be Thief, and this LJ will once again go back to its glorious days of thievery. But don't be surprised if I go Ninja or WHM! Tanking was something that I've always wanted to do and I do think I'm a decent healer. I won't be on the same level as Kiri, Rishi, or Dae, but I know I still have enough gas left in my tank to kill some HNMs.
Btw, is this going to be PS3 onry or can I play on PC? |
